I wanted to do something dead simple, make my KDE4 task manager show only the current desktop windows. I found out it a bit tricky, I kept trying right clicking the task bar to get its settings, only to end with “Panel Settings” which is the whole plasma panel settings menu, until I figured out the easiest way to do it:
1- Click on the “Cashew” icon of the plasma panel ( check the screenshot )
2- Right click on the task bar, BINGO, here u find out the task bar settings menu
3- Check the “Only show tasks from the current desktop” check box. Voila

For so long I’ve been wanting to study Algorithms, since our beloved college doesn’t know “Algorithms” was even invented. And since the best source to really learn them is the legendary book “Introduction to Algorithms”, I decided to start this week. It’s gonna be a tough ride, cause I tried before and it was really difficult to even finish the first two chapters, but I’m intended to do it nevertheless.
So I want to achieve maximum “fruitfulness” with this experience by creating a study group in H4ck3rz for students who are interested in studying Algorithms. We can study together in parallel, meet online to summarize, solve exercises together and share our “hard times” . I’ve the book, videos, some good resources that can help us go through it. Maybe at the end we can create some simplified study plan with our experience in this book, best places of help we had and what did we need to study in order to complete such a book “And there’ll be many

This is my presentation at the H4ck3rz Due conference, which was sponsored by “The Fedora Project” and “Egypt OpenSolaris Usergroup – EGOSUG” . it has been really a while since I participated in CAT, but it’s very good to be back.
I loved the conference, all the sessions were great, too bad I couldn’t attend the second day. Anyway I’ll be back with more updates about my CAT activities, stay tuned

Well, As clear as the topic name is, I wanna share with you what the state I’m in now, and also that state is as crystal clear as that wonderful, software driven topic “if the previous three words can ever come together like that, then I am Shakespeare”
Currently, I’m trying to become a software engineer “Wow, that word can be written so easily. Mesh mesadda2 nafsy” which as easy as it sound, given our society, education system, mental abilities, psychological conditions, biological conditions, and sometimes weather conditions, can be a very damn hard thing to achieve “Unless of course you’re an MIT graduate, you have three brains built in and one USB, your day is 96hrs and your year is 668 days and you’ll die with a functioning brain when you are ‘ya 7aram’ 300 years old bas”.
Currently I work in Thebe Technology, A Belgium outsourcing company in Cairo. I work for Qlayer/ Sun/ Oracle team “Oracle.acquire( Sun.acquire(Qlayer) ) ” as a python/Java developer. And in Thebe, you can find some damn good Software Engineers that can turn a news paper into a compiler “Mesh 3aref leah ya3ny, bas 3ady” . Anyway, I’m trying to keep up with the flow, trying to know first my best, then isA ba3d 3omr kaseer do that best, and hopefully, I’ll turn into a developer who can develop software that’s extinsible, flexible, consistent, resistent , printable,…eas..asd.e.ad.ca.ae.aefa…etc……….

Last Ramadan an angel arrived to this life, a real angel. One which knows no harms, no evil. One which has a heavenly look and a heavenly feel. She’s my niece and the moment I saw her I fell in love with her. It’s the first time to feel that kind of love, weird kind, one which comes from a place I didn’t know that existed in my heart. That angel’s name is “Malak” , which is the Arabic word for Angel. Late this month another angel arrived, he’s Ahmed, my cousin’s son. I’ll leave you with the picture, I present to you:

I’ll tell you about a problem, and if you have the true solution ….Well, I guess you won’t have a true one anyway, cause I almost tried them all.
I’m as most of you a normal Egyptian citizen, one who has a lot of dreams, one who’s very ambitious, and hope that one day I’ll achieve them. I’m a computer engineer, and I WAS thinking I’m a good computer engineer.
So, I should have a plan, right ? so my plan was “join a good computer faculty and learn as much as you can”, and here comes the tragedy. I started searching for a good computer faculty, “Mansoura Engineering, Mansoura Computer Science, Ain Shams Computer Science, AUC ,….etc” Then everyone said,”Of course Engineering boy, you’ll be an E N G I N E E E E E R” and they stress on that “EEEEEER” part. “The hell of course Engineering ” , “Mansoura Engineering, Ain Shams Engineering, mesh far2a” , “AUC is soooo expensive, you’ll get the basics anyway in any faculty so save the money for your post-graduate studies”..So it looks like Mansoura Engineering is the best choice for me so far, cause I live in Mansoura, “We Ain Shams mesh far2a keteer 3an Mansoura Engineering ” hehehe, ma anyal men setty ella seedy .
So, first year in college, waiting for the action, And here I find one computer subject only, “Visual Basic” !!! “Akeed 3ashan fel awel we lessa hanes’7an ya 3am”
2nd year, Fortran 90 !!!!! and Visual Basic bardo, “la2 ya 3am 7aram 3aleek, da Visual Basic .NET ” ahhh sa7ee7 , ma3lesh, We meen elly beyedy, Dr.Prof.Eng.Mr.Prof.Dr.Eng. Ali El-Desooky.
3rd year, Some bull-shit !! 4th year, 5th year !! Graduation Project !!! more BULL SHIT..NOTHING, just taking the subject names !!!!!
So, I decided to learn on my own, College won’t give me anything, so it’s just a certificate to put in my cv. “Aslohom beybosso 3ala el shehada ya ged3an !! we law mesh Handasa, Aywa, H A N D A S A , yeb2a mayenfa3sh” and I’ll take course, study , work and be a good computer engineer. So I did, and I finished college, worked while studying and after finishing I’ve been working for a year and 3 monthes.
Until one day a friend of mine had an interview from one of the best companies in the WORLD “The best company IMHO” , only to find out that we are “ZERO” level computer engineers, we don’t have any basics, we should’ve studied Algorithms, Data-Structures, AI, Data mining, Compilers, Operating Systems..etc. And he got a list of more than 40 book that he should study just to get the “Strong Basics” of a computer engineer. !!! And in my opinion also, he was the best one I’ve seen in egypt so far !!! And even after, he was not up to the level they want !!
WHAT THE HELL !!!! He’s not up to THEIR Basics LEVEL !!! If that’s not their Basic level, then where would ours be !!! Where would be my Level !! I must be in No Level at all, not even under zero, cause someone who’s much better than me is like that for them !!!
And here I am, A computer engineer who worked at two of the best companies in Egypt and maybe the middle east, yet I dunno what more to do, what wrong did I do !!! When will I be up to the standards !! 10000000 yrs ??!! …For example, Why can’t I have some guidance !! isn’t that my right ?!! I know that “Thanks Allah” for everything and I’ve alot of wonderful stuff in my life already, but this is one of the Major things in my life !! I’ve been fighting for it from the begining, and maybe I did alot of mistakes, but there are other people whom “IMHO also” didn’t do mistakes but still don’t qualify !!
So, here’s the million dollars question, “How can I be the engineer I can be ?? How can I reach my true limits ?The limits that exist because I’m a human being, not the limits that exist because I’m Egyptian !! Or because I live in such a society !!!” A3mel eah ya ged3aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan !!!
Hearing the voice of the italian captain on the air plane rented by Egypt Air announcing our arrival to Cairo made me feel totally relieved, at last I’m home. It was a long trip to Saudi Arabia, starting from Ramadan/September 17th till October 1st, but it was one of a kind trip. Allow me to tell you about it in a couple of days, but for now, I’ll leave you with the pictures on my Picasa
